What car for project?
Discussion
I'm inheriting the family Micra, and will be using it for a minimum of a year. This will be a welcome but boring stop-gap. So as an effort to keep my brain ticking i feel lke getting myself a rough classic, and spending a year restoring it. The only criteria for this are sub £1500, no welding needed, and the ability to seat 4, also no huge engines as insurance is a bugger for me
A boot would be lovely, as i do alot of climbing and shoving gear for 4 in it would be a bonus, however it's not necessary?
fictional internet beer tokens will be available to the poster of the suggestion deemed most lovely
Edited because my brain is already dying and spelling is difficult, and again because i forgot that big engines cost me a ton. So I've now been convinced that welding may be the way to go, just nothing that will fall apart with a light breeze

How about something like this?

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C208796
Looks like it might be a good rolling resto.
W124 Mercs are lovely as well, and this example looks like a good candidate to be saved from further chavification;

I really like all three of these, unfortunately I could never insure the big Merc or the SD1 (if it's the v8)Sensible option at £1600: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C309387

that old Landy does look really nice though, can the bench seats be fitted in the back legally?

Have you considered something like a Midget, they can be had for little money and insurance could be done through a classic policy or through the MG Owners' Club.
And they're a bit of fun.

You're cutting out a lot of possibilities by saying 'no welding', and I think that anything that can be classed as a classic at that price is likely to need a patch or two.
How about taking a couple of hundred out of your budget for a welder?
would it be worth investing in my own torch, or is welding difficult to pick up? I'm generally good at most mechanical work and electrical work, and can pick up disciplines very quickly, however I've never even touched a welder, never mind used one :SHow about taking a couple of hundred out of your budget for a welder?
