Replacement rear window

We had a fun afternoon taking the whole rear section of the roof off our S3 today in order for us to have a new rear window put in. Before we drag it off to the appropriate place tomorrow does anyone know if we will have to remove the roof from the frame.

I'd strongly suspect so.

If it's going to be machine stitched can't see how they'd manoeuvre it if still attached?
