We drove our car to France some time back and used it to ferry the dogs back and forth, things got complicated when we had the second child and the car got left in a garage and ran out of Tax so I had to SORN it. The insurance is still fully paid up and they know where the car is, but I now have an opportuinty to bring it back in to the UK in a couple of weeks.....can i drive from Folkestone to Falmouth if I'm booked in to an MOT station the next day with all the appropriate paperwork and a fistfull of cash for road tax???

Any thoughts, even if it is a decent testing station with a Post Office near by the Eurotunnel exit?????

In theory yes. But Folkestone to Falmouth is quite a long way and as you are only supposed to be driving an un MOT'd car to a pre bookedMOT then I'm not sure how plod would view that sort of distance.

A closer test station might be the better option.

Thanks for that, i'm now looking at taking the ferry to Plymouth as that reduces the drive time in the UK by quite a margin.

Still if anyone else has had any experience with this still would like to hear!

Why not find an MoT station near the ferry?

Im bringing back 2 dogs and didn't want to face a possible MOT failure etc whilst away from the home town.

Could get complicated if it does not pass the test so far from home.

If you're going for the "I'm on my way to a mot" defence Then it's probably best that it is on the same day as you get the car back into the country, anpr cameras are also likely to be around the ports and eurotunnel IMHO.

You can legally drive to or from an mot regardless of if it passes or not, so an mot near the port is still an option
