I'm so attached to my car...

Do I just need to MTFU?
I purchased my GTA 4 years ago, and am really rather fond of it but I have to sell it prior to moving house, and before my first child arrives in December so I can clear my credit card debt.
It also needs a cambelt and two new tyres before the end of the year, and I just cannot justify the running costs when I have a child to think about, but for some reason I am really struggling to part with it
What the hell is wrong with me?!

Absolutely nothing. I'm similar. I could save £80 per month (which I definitely need) if I got rid of the Jag but I just can't bring myself to do it.
At one point last year a headlight bulb went and I genuinely felt sorry for it. I hated the fact that it had a poorly eye and people might look at it and think it was neglected!

Nothing, i had to keep myself from crying when i walked away from my first alfa (a 155hp mito Sport, briliant little car, although no GTA for sure), i was depressed for weeks after letting it go, thinking back to it makes me miss the damn thing
Some cars just grip you so much that nothing else seems to matter, sadly reality can be a bit overpowering and force you to do something really sad.
As for the GTA, even a 147 should be roomey enough for a family with one kid, just have it fitted with LPG kit to reduce fuel costs.

I genuinely can see me getting upset when it drives away

The problem is that I need the capital to clear my debts (2.5k) and to buy a new car (1k) (which I have done with the 405)

I can relate to this!
Last night we went to a comedy club and I had parked the car in an underground car park in Dublin.
I parked the Puma next to a black Q7 and walking away I genuinely felt seedy and worried for her safely as that big black Q7 might touch her up (rub her exhaust and twiddle her window wipers) when no one was around!

I was half expecting to return to the car to find her bootlid smashed in and the Q7 looking rather pleased with it self.

Did you not flog the GTA on ebay a while back?? If you're really struggling to let go of the whole 156 thing then you can buy mine... it's a bit more sensible too; 04 plate 2.4 JTD done 80k. £1,500 seals it!
I did, but I bottled out the sale. Thanks for the offer, but I have a 405 now

The 405 is a new daily driver? you brave and foolish man.

It all makes me feel sad though, but 2.5K in debt wont dissapear overnight, certainly with a kid on the way (tell me about it, if it werent for my darling daughter i'd have a GTV V6 turbo in the garage).
I dont know how much 156GTAs go for in the UK, but surely clearing the debt and some baby-fund will leave room for another fun italian for the weekend-hoon? a 33/145QV perhaps?

It's not that brave or foolish, it's a pretty simple car so not much to go wrong. I don't use my car daily either, I cycle mostly. Today is the first time I have driven since last Tuesday, so its not really a daily driver per se.I fully understand the too attached thing, really hated selling my Corrado VR6 and still think about it at least once or twice a week, peruse the PH classified at least twice a week for Corrados and will be buying another one in about a year.
I suppose on the plus side you're getting rid of it for a family, which should give you plenty of joy.

I don't understand why having a child signifies the end of fun motoring. To take it to the extreme, it used to make me laugh when I sold new Citroens. A young couple would come in, and they might have a 3 door Clio. Now they are expecting their first in a couple of months, it was a race against time to change their perfectly adequete little car (it would take a child seat) for an all singing all dancing 7 seater Grande C4 Picasso. I would hardly argue my way out of a sale, but was there really any need??
When I was a lil' one, my mum shoehorned my sister and I into the back of her MG B GT, no issues, we were happy as Larry. The MG would take 4 of us, thus making it a family car! I'm sorry, I digress...

I agree, which is why I got the 405. The reason for selling the GTA is to release the capital, that's all. When I was a lil' one, my mum shoehorned my sister and I into the back of her MG B GT, no issues, we were happy as Larry. I know, I know. I was using the C4 Picasso as an extreme case. I suppose the 405 is a pretty sensible buy really, and a cracking car when they came out. How many roadworthy mi16s left??
About 25
I like the idea of a modern classic that I can use daily (sort of), is fun, and take along to shows etc
