Brake Fluid for track day - Advice please.

Hi all,

I am looking to go on a track day again in the next month here in Northern Ireland. Last time i went i noticed the brake pedal went very long after a few laps,

The track is quite short, but 2 big braking points from straights into tight corners so I assume my brake fluid not up to a track day requirements?


Anyone have any recommendations on brake fluid that I should use that would do for the day? Mines a 2.5 GTO standard.

I would change the fluid every time I went on track.

I use the AP extended temp stuff

The Motul RBF660 is one of the top ones for track use, think quite a few people use it, it's about £18 a bottle on eBay.

How would this effect driving on roads if you where to use it all the time? Hard Pedal?

I must admit that I don't stamp on my brakes on trackdays (which I know I should if I want a quicker time) but I tend to be a bit more progressive with it and I've never had pedal issues. I have only ever done Brands so that might be why?

Also, could it be that I have a 2.5. Has anyone had brake fade on a 2.5?

Yeah, I would consider myself kind on the brakes also to be fair as I know i have to drive it a good hour and abit home. Just think its the layout of the track over here, 2 straights get you up to 130mph+ then down to right hand bends around 40-30mph.

AP Racing Formula DOT 5.1 - available quite cheaply on fleabay. If you are an occasional track day user I wouldn't spend a fortune on brake fluid. most premium brand DOT 5.1 will be fine. Also if the brake fluid you used last time on track was newish, I would suspect expansion in your brake lines as being the culprit for the soggy pedal. In the M400 all brake lines are solid to avoid this issue.

Hi, Thanks for that. Yep, been there a few times before, only once in the Noble. Gonna try to get to the August one.

What he said, slao steel break hoses if you not already, makes a massive difference.
