hi there,

usually i have my cerb every 2 weeks on the tickle charger, just to make sure.
strange thing is that i noticed recently that the charger is constantly charging, so i guess or the battery is broke, charger broke or the cerb is leaking somewhere.

and the other thing that i notice is that after some minutes, the doors are blocked/locked (while the cerb is on the charger)
to unlock i have to set the alarm and to undo the alarm... than doors are opening as normal...

any ideas what this might be?

ps. when i put my tuscan on the charger same thing happens, but no door lock.

Could be the charger. I've heard that one mode of failure is perpetual charging. What's the voltage across the battery terminals with and without charger connected?

i have no idea, but if this would be the case, than i dont understand why the cerb would automatically lock the doors.

i have to check what the voltage is later on, when i put the Tuscan on the charger, but i think something like 12 without and 13.x when on the charger.

but i have to check it.
i must say i dont drive them that often so i guess that after 2 weeks the voltage will be lower then normal anyway. so i will check before on the charger, while on the charger and tomorrow morning after the charge, just to make sure.

thank you

Mine did this. Big fuse failed 4 weeks later. Fuse is probably fractured but still allowing partial charge.

Reached the fuse and charger now marks as full within a few minutes.

Having said that I have also had a battery fail but this would show as charged on the Optimate and then the car would not start.

the big fuse... i hope not, they use to fail when there is a lot of traffic...
well, in 2008 mine start to have some issues just when i made a turn to the left and failed in the middle of a big cross road soon after hahahahaha

but must say so far no staring issues at all... but you might be right.
I will keep an eye on this , thank you

The big fuse is between the alternator and the battery only, so unless you have your charger with the positive connected to the alternator connection it has nothing to do with it. It will of course affect how the alternator charges the battery.

Eh?

Fractured fuse means inconsistent charging by the battery and thus a low battery when being charged by the trickle charger. wink l Hence never reaching fully charged.

before charging my Tuscan voltage was 12.4 when starting the engine it was 12.8.
after charging it was 13.4 with started engine 13.8.

think that is actually good or?

so guess that the charger could be broke... or?

It's not just about the voltage. If you have 13.8 it suggests some charging by the system is taking place, wether there is a fault with it or not requires further investigation. You should also have a drop test done on the battery, any old garage should have a drop tester and be able to do this for a couple of quid. You should carry out a current draw check to see if there is an issue with something like the alarm discharging the battery...
