Just to let you know, there is a programme on this Sunday (15th July) at 20:00 on BBC HD and BBC2 that was filmed in my works showing what we do on a Boeing 747 'D' check.

I don't know what its going to be like, probably more fiction than fact, but I was thinking it might be of interest to you on here if you want to see what we go through to keep these old girls in the air.

I'm interested to see what it's like, I just hope that I kept well out of the filming!

You need to terminate the lease and get it sent back before the D check...

Sorry, been playing Airway Sim too much!

Sounds really interesting. Won't be able to watch it 'live', but that's what the iPlayer is for!

Looking forward to this.

I assume it's at BAMC, which is a building that I had a little to do with a few years ago for work, and is fascinating in itself.

It is indeed BAMC, I've been there for the last 17 years!

What were you up to with the place??? If you visited you probably went passed me, I'm always hidden in the planning office wink

I worked for a firm who handled the Rating appeals for BA on the 2000 list. Huge Rateable value. Sadly left before the case went through to agreement.

I recall standing next to a 747 wheel, and realising just how bloody big they were!

Interesting programme, as I had contemplated a career doing exactly that with BA some 32 years ago, but ultimately took another direction, and ten years later I actually ended up working on the steel fabrication of that BA hangar at Cardiff, so double interest for me smile

Holy kak. How patronising was that? Massive respect to the crews that do the work on what it a very complex airframe, but the two simpering morons who hosted the show, is that how far the BBC has sunk?

In the scheme of things an electrical safety test on a kettle and how a toilet works, with less than five minutes on the basic principles of powered flight (which are apparently is up for discussion!) left me feeling somewhat disappointed.

Enjoyed that, although the presenters were very CBBC!

What amazing pieces of engineering!
