Not the best Friday I have had.

"Gutted" as the Land Rover was running perfectly.

Taken away on car transporter this afternoon - a sad day, but not my worst.

Not sure but either an electric 'short' or a problem with the heater blower slider control (had a few issues with this over the last few weeks) or rain getting into the (23 year old) wiring).

Wow, you definitely picked the wrong car to try suicide bombing.

Seriously, that's horrible to see. I love Defenders. frown

Damn right - I had spent a few £000s replacing worn out parts and getting it just as I wanted.

Previous Sunday the Landy spent 7 hours offroading and didn't miss a beat.

Insurers confirm my worse (but almost resigned) feelings that it is a write off.

Such a great shame.............................

That's a great shame, sorry for your loss. It looked mint pre-fire, not many 23 year old Defenders I've seen looked as nice as that!

Slightly off-topic, but I'm sure I read somewhere that if you set fire to a brand new range rover sport before it had turned a wheel out of the showroom, it would do less damage to the environment than letting someone use it for its predicted lifetime.

Sorry to hear about the Landy though.

What bad luck frown

If its a Cat C/D and you've spent so much on it, buy it back from the insurance company ?

That's a real shame. Hope you can get it back to something approaching what it was?

Insurers have been great - communicative and helpful.

Fortunately I have a folder of invoices from when I bought the Landy (March 2012) and this will help with the valuation.

Not a straightforward valuation (in my mind)?

I appreciate it is a 1989/G plate Land Rover.

Melted interiors always disgust me in a really weird way. Sorry to see that OP.

Thanks for the replies chaps, I am 'ok' and I take the view it is not that bad - world is still turning etc.

Lads in Afghanistan have much more to deal with:

Defenders are a very hard vehicle to value. Old ones like your's still command mega bucks, as I'm sure you found out when you bought it. Hope your insurers play fair.

The dealer mistakenly ticked both the Arctic heater AND the rapid boost demister option on the Defender order form, with disasterous consequences...

Sorry, couldn't resist paperbag Such a shame - looks a lovely thing in ace condition for a 23 year old. Proper engine too frown Hopefully it'll be possible to buy it back and fix it.
