Ford Focus 2009 hatch central locking fault?!

The missus has a 2009 Focus Titanium 4 door hatch, recently it has developed an odd problem, the car alarm goes off from the vehicle being locked and then the car wont lock again?
Sitting in the car with the car unlocked and keys in ignition the car states 'Driver door open' when the all doors are fully shut! we lock the car from the keyfob and you can see and hear the locking mechanism working but the doors lock and then unlock again straight away.
Currently the car is sitting on our drive unsecure because the car thinks the drivers door is open and will not lock from the keyfob.
You can manually lock the car but this does not activate the alarm and my wife needs to use the car and for it to be secure.
Anyone had this problem before or know what to do about it?
