Creaking noise from steering - Cayman S
Discussion
My 2010 CS has just recently started creaking like an old mans bones during low speed manoeuvres. Doesn't matter which direction you turn the wheel or if the brake is applied or not. Any ideas? Nothing has been changed on the car so it hasn't had new tyres or anything like that and other than the noise everything else seems normal. Will be ringing the OPC on Monday as its under warranty but I just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced it.
Funny. When I drove to Le Mans this year, I got to the Paris ring road and sitting in the traffic moving the steering wheel I experienced exactly the same issue on my 2006 Cayman S. Don't notice it too much at higher speed, but as you say sound just like a creaking noise.

I've seen these exact same symptoms - a creaking, groaning sound at very slow speeds when either the suspension moves up/down or the steering is turned - caused by a faulty track-rod end ball joint. This is usually caused by water getting past the seal and the ball corroding.
It's very easy to test for. Just jack-up each front corner of the car in turn, remove the wheel and have someone move the steering. You can also usually reproduce the squeak by rotating the steering arm.
Replacement isn't expensive, BUT... you will need a proper alignment afterwards. Unfortunately, no 2 track-rod ends are exactly the same length, so 'counting turns' as you put the new one on is only good enough to get you to the local alignment specialist. (Ask me how I know)!

I'll give my dealer a call on Monday - sounds like a warranty job to me
