I remember seeing the review for these when they were new many moons ago on Top Gear, in a bit of a dodgey light green colour. I'd been looking to spend a couple of grand on a car and had been watching one of these on eBay (not the R the T5) and in usual eBay style the seller has pulled the auction as it looked like it wasn't going to make what he wanted. Decided to look at other cars and came across a few of the R's for sale including the one below.

Seems like a performance baragin to me, 300 bhp loads of toys, not much that makes it stand out from other S60 and must be reasonably rare. Anyone have one/driven one? I'd be tempted by the one below if it wasn't the at the other end of the country for me. Potential moneypit with fancy suspension etc but would be fun while it lasted......

The auto is a known weak spot. Volvo themselves limited the torque in the lower gears and many were reported not to reach the claimed 300 bhp. For that reason you cant tweak them much unlike the manual.

Nice cars still and at 3gs well priced.

Beware of drivetrain, suspension and bush issues.

Talking myself more and more into getting one. Insurance seems laughable in my circumstances, £395 fully comp pay pretty close to that on the Mrs 1.8 Astra. Will have a look at the cost of a decent warranty.

They look like a decent amount of car for the money though I have to say.

Just you wait until they pop a liner, or you find out the AWD system doesn't work/goes pop, and will do it more than once hehe

But seriously nice cars that can be made quuuuick

That looks ideal, manual with black leather would be preferable.

Owned a 2.7T couple of years ago.

Mile muncher with a great & comfy seats.

Only down side and well known draw back with the S60 is the diabolical turning circle.

These 5 pot Volvo/Ford engines, are they belt or timing chain out of interest?

Yes, just check for a yellow sticker which should prove that its been replaced with the early version for a later upgraded unit on Turbo engines.

Not just a straight forward swap either, as the new unit has to be coded to the car.
