Got a nasty rattle, had the car up on ramps and nothing loose on the exhast system so I'm of the firm belief its inside one of boxes. These had the interior stuff removed by a previous owner so it sounded luvverly, and since having the pre-cats out last year the sound is epic. So, wishing to retain the highly entertaining musical note that accompanies me wherever I go whats the likely replacement options? Buy standard and have it sleeved? Cherry bombs (whatever they are)? Any suggestions lads???

Cheers,

Chilli

Where are you based?
Long life exhausts make them while you wait to your spec and out of decent stainless which won't rust.

Is there no custom fabricators in your area? I had a local chap (Meercat exhausts) Make me a full system up to exactly how i wanted it to sound the finish is awesome and the sound is like thunder when tramping on but usable when in town and on a cruise. Much cheaper than off the shelf units and that is it fitted as well smile

+1 on the ACT system, very well made by JP exhausts out of high grade stainless, lovely sound. Never got on with the Massey Ferguson sound of straight through/sleeved exhausts (sorry Garlick!) smile

Thanks for the replys guys... I'm in Norfolk.... Hadn't considered a custom job... But then the ACT system sounds good... Will have to do some local research, just need to retain the noise, couldn't live without it biggrin

Thanks chaps,

Just swap the old knackered box out for a pair or cherry bombs, get a local exhaust guy to do this, £150-300 all in?

Just a bit of info some cherry bombs make a different note depending on which way round they are and can sap power, so noisy way round for power and quiet to sap a bit, but im only talking about 5hp at the most I would of thought

This might explain it abit better, you can see the fins are sided

i did the cherry bombs on mine and they sound loads better, it was sleeved before but I much prefer it now.
they are £30 each and fitting was £50 by an exhaust welder so pretty cheap. they were from eBay, seller called ccr-ltd can get any size you want.
they fit inside the original silencer box so it looks completly standard and you dont need to mess around with new mounts etc. Get some new rubbers while you're doing it though for the sake of a few quid.
small video to give an idea of the noise

Let me know how you get on Chillman, I'm also in Norfolk and might be tempted for a changed if the sound and price is right, but I don't want to sacrifice any power. Cheers

I fancy trying the cheery bomb route myself, does anyone know what size fit in the original box?

+1 on ACT sports plus Y piece. Much well rounded as compared with the self-made sleeved variety (which I had before)...

Are you sure Cherry Bombs use fibre glass packing?
Those I've seen don't, yet the standard TVR system does.

Custom Chrome are very good if you're looking to DIY or get a custom job done: click.

You just want the one`s with the perforated pipe and wadding

Some of the American cherry bombs actualy loose power.

Have a read through this , Rob explains why !
