Belt squeal on start up - any ideas

Hi all

My 997 TT 2008 model, had been sat out in the rain all night having parked it up at a hotel carpark midday yesterday. Had travelled about 110miles to attnd a friends wedding.
Started it up this morning and for about 10 seconds there was a belt squeal of some sort!

I gently tapped the acc. pedal and the sound went.

Cars under OPC warranty if that matters at all.

Any ideas, or people with similar sounds, any concern

My 996 turbo has done the same for just over a year, although it doesn't always do it even if it's rained. I had a belt changed at the service last year to cure it, but it didn't make any difference.

its a design fault on gen 1 997 t, engine gets soaked in the rain and the belt squeaks until water washed away. try not to leave in rain!

Hotel didn't have a garage for me to put it in

It is very common. If you spray a little bit of silicone spray on the belt with the engine running they normally stop.

Hi there.I think there is a modification for this complaint.
A friends was so bad it lost power steering when starting wet/cold.
Belt and rollers/tensioner replaced together with deflection plate,to reduce amount of water getting onto the belt.

If I am careless with the hose when washing the 996 turbo it will squeak when started. It's just water on the belts and the squeak goes away quickly. Nothing to worry about.
