Nikon lens / warranty
Discussion
Just recieved a Nikon 24-70 lens from an Amazon seller (Digiplus) ...new not used...everything included in box ..except warranty card...does anyone know if warranty cards are no longer included ? The serial number on the lens matches the number on the box label. Am I likely to have problems with the lack of card ?..have requested info from Digiplus but no reply as yet. ..Steve w.
I don't know if you'll find warranty cards in every box. Had it been opened or sealed?
Otherwise....
Regardless of card, get the lens registered to you on the Nikon website. It can only help to ensure Nikon know when you acquired it - obviously keep your receipt(s).
Unless you've been told it is not an official UK Nikon item by Amazon (and reseller) act like you assume it is - until told otherwise - in any dealings with Nikon. (i.e. you've not had to pay any import duties et cetera). It is most unlikely to cause trouble, unless there is something wrong with it out of the box (in which case just get seller to replace it).
(In cases where you think warranty/guarantee is important to you, my tip would be to pay the slight premium for something like Grays where you can get up to a five year guarantee - it was my route for latest body purchase for peace of mind.)

Thanks for that have just been on Nikon site (could not find registration section yesterday) have created an account and registered the lens....it shows as registered under "my account" so I presume they have accepted the product ?....do Nikon send any confirmation /acknowledgement in your experience ? I think when I upgrade to full frame body I will use Grays or a professional dealer, these products are too expensive to be having warranty problems! Steve w.

Sort of - and no, are the two answers. The system wouldn't let you register a product/serial that doesn't exist, and doesn't let you register something that another user has registered until they de-register it.
I've never had any electronic or paper acknowledgement of anything I've ever registered - that's bodies and lenses, TCs and down to speedlights.
I just go a reasonable faith that if I've registered a few bits of kit over the years, and should I ever have a problem, it's likely I can talk them nicely into doing something (whether in warranty or not).
As far as kit goes, I buy a fair bit secondhand, but have been and will continue to be reluctant to acquire anything with known issues, or for which repairs/parts look unlikely - that's mostly early AF-I and AF-S teles where repairs aren't viable (unless prepared to take the risk of using them in manual focus which is always a possibility).
I wouldn't be scared of the recent 14-24/24-70/70-200 and similar though - as I say, these all tend to work, or have obvious issues out of the box!
So on contacting Nikon uk ..they tell me that they can't tell from the serial no. If the lens is uk or another region ! They say they don't realy treat lens products as "grey" imports as they have a worldwide warranty (different to bodies) however normally they need to see a warranty card for repairs...but if the are presented with invoice etc they would more than likely undertake warranty work. Amazon on the other hand have told me that as the lens came via them from a business partner ,then they will warranty the lens and sort any problems for me ! So keeping the lens..just got to use it now!

Even if you have registered the lens , Nikon may not honour any warranty as they can tell if is a uk market lens or not.
Sorry that's wrong but a common misconception. Lenses have an Intl Warranty unlike DSLR bodies which are "geographic". See section at the bottom of this link on International Warrantieshttp://www.europe-nikon.com/en_GB/service_support/...
However despite what it says there you don't need a warranty card. What you do need is proof of purchase in your name from a recognised retailer (i.e. not some bloke on eBay who is selling lenses as a hobby). You have to prove you are the first "original consumer purchase via the sales slips".
I checked all this ut with the two biggest Nikon repair companies in the UK Fixation and AJ Johnstone before I bought my 70-200 which was a grey import. Fixation and AJ Johnstone will repair under the manufacturers warranty as long as you have a receipt from a retailer.
