Okay apart from there wker lights, they are for chav reasons and typical replies, why don't most new cars have front fogs?

surely they are useful still.

I've noticed that you only tend to get front fog lights on the top spec models only.

Most do have front fog lights, you can see them on almost every night.

I hope you are not confusing driving lights (day running lights) for fog lights. You can't turn the driving lights off on many new cars now.

Better headlights, better road lighting and all cars have rear fog lamps.

Have (front) fog-lights ever been worth having? In 15 years of driving, I've turned them on once and even then it just made the difference between doing 10mph and 5mph.

Likewise. They made even less difference to me. My current car doesn't have them, although my wife's does. Useless things.

I remember being in the car with a mate way back and it was pea soup, he turned his normal lights to side lights and switched the fogs on, made a big difference as it reduced the glare and increased visibility. Seemed to do the trick.

Most are now a combined DRL and fog in the bumper - and some VWs (don't know about other manufacturers) manage to get fogs into the main cluster, too.

My 911 hasn't got them, Porsche state their lighting system negates the need for them?

I wonder why they have rear fogs. Modern tail lights are so bright are they really needed?

Proper fog lights work very well. They basically illuminate the road, and the bits either side, without illuminating the fog ahead of you. On my Infiniti, the fog lights were partof the headlights, so no 'separate' fog lights to be seen.

On the rare occasion I've needed to use them i.e. in dense fog, I' ve switched off the dipped beam and they've helped by illuminating the kerb and centre line of the road.

This. Over 700k miles of motoring I have needed them on less than ten occasions i.e. main beam off, fog lights on. Not worth fitting for the non-Chav user...

I think people have missed the point of modern fog lights.

Front fog lights are not designed to let you see more and possibly allow you to drive faster in fog, as some people are hinting at, they're there to allow other oncoming drivers to see you.
Rear fog lights do the same and are iirc 20 times brighter.

Try driving down a narrow country road at night in the fog where you can't even see the sides of the road with normal lights on. For me that was plenty of reason to believe they are useful to have.

Don't forget it's not the lights that are the problem, it's the idiot behind the wheel.

My front fogs come on when I corner at low speeds. Handy but quite pointless.
