After Evo weighed in earlier in the year with a head to head, without the performance stats, the top Italian mag has done a piece by piece performance comparison of both cars.

Looks like same driver and same conditions with stock tyres and 20inch wheels.

C2S = 2 mins 52.8.5
C2 = 2 mins 54.0.0

They have posted the times on fastest-laps.

Timed by the same mag on the same course, the C2S time is in line with an '12 R8 V8 and the C2 time is as quick as the '09 997 C2S PDK....

1.5 secs slower over about 180 seconds is pretty negligible

I suspect that the "basic" 991 is probably all the car we will ever need in the real world.

The problem is you sit down with the brochure and somehow convince yourself that the "S" is one for you. Then you look at Options and gradually sell yourself a whole host of enhancements that probably don't make anything other than a marginal difference to on-the-limit performance.

You can get a "basic" 991 for £70k.

Stonking performance for the money?

For a bit more add PCCBs and sports suspension, decent GT3 alternative ??

No. A 996tt is this. Your 70k will get you all kind of performance cars. It is however a good buy in other respects I would say., i.e. if you want to be the first with the latest model, the base is perhaps a good way to go.

A 996tt is also a stonking performance car for the money.

But its a 10 year old car with all the potential issues and hassle that can bring.

I'd still like to see a performance comparison between identical cars with and without PDCC. any one seen one yet?

I'm pretty sure no such comparison exists. I've sure looked hard enough for one. But Shirley what matters us which gives more enjoyment? And that is always going to be a subjective choice.

I bought a 991 Cab with just PDK, heated seats, multi function s/wheel and telephone module. I've saved myself a fortune, sort of. And I've just started to use the Sport button, woweeee. Happy Days.

Its less that 1%. And its only been achieved by a proficient driver under controlled conditions.

A lightly specced standard Carrera is all you need. I suppose I could go further and suggest that most people cant get 100% out of an MX5, but that would be silly. biggrin

I understand why people get seduced by all of these electronic acronyms and brakes invented for trains but Porsches are about simple fun?

That's where the 991 has gone in a different direction that I was hoping but not really a surprise.

Of course it is, but some people always want more. I'm more than happy with a 996 C2

I've driven a standard 991 and found it just numb, the 'S' is in another league altogether especially with PDCC

Don't both cars have the same chassis ?

PDCC reduces roll (whether this is a good or bad thing is a personal preference I guess), so I don't understand how both cars can be in a different league ?

Providing that one is able to drive to the limits of lat grip and traction, it would seem as though PDCC doesn't really help performance, based on the above lap times. And for the average road driver, I assume it's easier to drive near the limit without PDCC, as surely, roll is your best friend when it comes to have a feel for how much lat load is applied.

What do you mean by numb, lack of feel? If so, which elements of the S were better?

1.2 seconds on a near 3 min lap doesn't sound like another league to me?
