968 Clubsport - tune it or shift it?
Discussion
I have owned my speed yellow 968 CS for good few years now and have kept it completely standard and straight. But I am starting to feel I want a bit more oomph and (even more importantly) a bit more aural (yes I checked the spelling) stimulation.
I am currently debating whether I should go the s/s exhaust / filter route or just move on. I know these changes won't turn it into a GT3 but would welcome feedback from any CS/968 owners out there who have has positive/negative experiences of tuning these machines.
Moving on would probably mean a switch to a Boxster - perhaps perceived as less "special" in some respects but in my opinion better all rounder - anyone gone from a CS to a Boxster and willing to share the experience?
I have read numerous reports on the CS being a future classic but think I need a car that I can enjoy without worrying about mileage / originality. If I was in the UK I'd probably have both but being in lhd land (Sweden) early Boxsters command a good bit more wedge.
Views welcome.

Thanks to both for the responses. Good recommemdation to check the that it is delivering all it should in standard form for starters.. I am lucky enough to have a specialist not too far from me and will get him to look over the injectors (never done to my knowledge) and maybe get it on a rolling road and at least establish what the current output is and see if I am down on power at all.
If I do modify I will take it in stages and maybe go with a K&N to start with. Was quoted 2.5 grand
for an OEM exhaust from my local dealer in Sweden so had a reconditioned unit fitted but that is starting to get a bit blowy now.
Will also sign up to the 968 forum and see what I can glean from there...been a while since I had a look.
Was pressing on a bit last week but was not opening up any kind of gap on a diesel Touareg! I know these things have great mid range but it was a bit depressing none the less...
...found myself praying for a corner or 2.

A Supercharger install? Low'ish boost (0.5bar/300bhp?), thus leaving the engine CR standard. The charger can always be removed if selling as a standard car.
...found myself praying for a corner or 2.I put a Janspeed from the Cat back exhaust on my CS, supplied through Hartech. It sounded a whole lot better than standard, without being either boomy or boy racer like.
The engine sounds better with a little noise. In a way I wish I'd gone further and had it with a race cat as well. This can be added later though if required. Get her really sounding great.
I felt no loss in power or torque that I could feel. If anything she not only sounded nicer, but I thought she ran a little quicker as well.
The biggest problem with the CS is that they handle so well, they are so well engineered, that 240 horses is nowhere near enough. She could easily handle 60 plus more IMO.
Saying that, like alot of people who have owned one, I miss mine alot. Whatever the BHP.

The 968 chassis can cope with 400 BHP with ease. I recommend with a 3.0 Turbo engine, which can produce 400 BHP and way over 400 ft-lbs of torque at reasonably low boost so the engine reliability being good and not stressed. Add to that an LSD box, KW suspension and big brakes, you have a 968 Turbo S or RS that is faster and more nimble than the factory S or RS.
Above 450 ft-lbs of torque traction becomes an issue. I remember with one of our first 3.2 944 Turbo's thinking its clutch was slipping at full throttle, until I was playing with the slip at 120 mph around a gradual private motorway bend and the back started to go wide, which was the first time I concluded that maybe it was possible to "over engine" a car.
Don't modify the CS beyond a chip or exhaust. If you go for something more than that, you may as well sell the car to someone who wants a CS, buy a cheaper standard 68 and build the car of your dreams.
As always, it really comes down to budget and dreams, the only problems come when the two are not compatible.

This I will definetley look into - current system is gettng blowier by the day so now I have the excuse
. Tend to agree if you go too far on mods you might as well start from scratch. I think you can spend a ton of money getting to a very fast car but one that can never be economically brought back to original state.
Thanks all for the input / food for thought.

Beware where you get the Janspeed if you go down that route. I did alot of homework before I bought the whole pipe from the cat back. Some companies sell parts of Janspeed exhausts, ie like the tailpipe and silencers seperatly, that then make up from the cat back. The engine sounds better with a little noise. You want the all in one pipe. (Which includes the silencer) .......
Plus if I did it again, I would have added the race cat. ...... Its a bugger to fix the exhaust because of the way Porsche designed the clamp to Cat. Therefore its not just a simple job to disconect and re-connect later.
