Wonky Boot

Looking from the back at my boot the gap is larger at the bottom left(N/S), had a quick look at the hinge mechanism and the only way I thought I could compensate for the gap was to pack out the bottom plate which attaches to the underside of the boot apperture.

Has any one done this before and knows the best way??

Also, I've only got one damper/piston fitted on the left(N/S) is this normal?? Is it adding to the problem??

My boot wasn't locking down properly, so i adjusted the baseplate in the boot. low and behold the boot now stays shut, but I too now have wonky boot syndrome as we might as well call it! Since the catch is central this means the actual hinge mount must be out of plane to the chassis on mine. (I had it from new and it's never been touched so must have come from blackpool that way).
i need to make the type of adjustment you're talking about, but it might be worth you moving the baseplate a bit and seeing if that alters the angle like it does on mine. If you can get it right and the boot still locks, it'll save you a rake of aggro.
I haven't looked at the actual lock mechanism on the boot lid but if you can change the angle of attachment on that it will be as easy route to solving my problem and possibly yours too.
On the upside at least it's a relatively simple thing to fix!!

Mine was like this, i used some large washers between the hinges and the boot and also between the fxings to the body to even it out. 1 strut on the N/S is normal.

I'll give the washers/packing a try at the weekend and see what I can do with the catch alignment.

Take a look at the boot seal and make sure that its properly seated all the way round as this can cause one side to sit higher than the other.

Check that it's not simply your roof panel pushing the lid up slightly on one side? Take it out, shut the boot and have another look. Rich...
