I don't know why I'm telling you this but here goes

I bid on a Volvo S40 2.0 SE and got a second chance offer for £330 which I thought why not.

MOT till November, tax till June next year, leather seats, everything works, loads of history, what's not to like.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-VOLVO-S40-2-0-SE-BL...

Not sure if I really like it though now I actually have it

Bargain.... how can you go wrong really... has to be worth £150 scrap so just run it till it dies.

Good shedding! Did he let you have it at that as add says reserve not met? I'm always on the look out for my next shed but at the mo been very difficult for anything with test to go for sub £500. Does make me feel better if/when I sell my 325, cost £300 and in 12 months has cost a tyre and has 10 month test.

He had been trying to sell it for a couple of weeks and wanted shot so even though reserve was not met (and I was outbid) he sent me a second chance offer for my highest bid.

Still worried if I have done the right thing but it was really cheap I suppose.

For £330 you can't go wrong if it dies break or weigh in. I reasoned if mine did me a few months I'd be happy and refuses to die, poor bugger has never been washed. You may be surprised come MOT time too.

Nothing to worry about at that price really. Worst case - you weigh it in at £150 (was there tax to cash in?) and you're £180 down. What else might you have spent £180 on; or, conversely, what would you pay £180 for without a second thought?

What a fantastic buy!

I am very tempted to get myself something like that for the winter months. Well, that is my justification. I really just want a really cheap semi interesting old car biggrin

It's quite incredible what you can get for that price, 111k on a Volvo is only just beyond run in, it may be 12 yrs old but that's less than a set of tyres, how can it turn out anything other than well.

The tax wasn't included in the £330, sorry if I misled, I paid a few quid for the remaining few remaining months tax.

Still a bargain I think.

It is amazing what you get if you are lucky. I really wanted the 2.0t but they were going for more than double.

Need to decide what to do with my fleet now as have 3 cars and one needs to go.

Got the Volvo, got a x reg focus (paid £470 for that) and a 2006 vectra cdti sri 150.

Plan was to sell the veccy for a couple of grand and run the sheds.

Good work - that's a cheap motor.

Strange specification - all that leather, climate, lots of toys... but wind-down windows in the back!

Shedtastic, my V40 needed nothing but a bottom arm in 18,000 miles and started every time, was a comfy enough place to sit, and could even hold its own on quick motorway treks.

I sold it for £475 as it was too thirsty for town and I was only using it once a week to make sure it still worked.

They may not be great compared to the bigger Volvos but the 40s are still much better than a lot of cars from that era are now at being reliable transport.
