Vodafone Galaxy SII in America

Hopefully the right forum to post on ...
Can any one give the heads up on whether my phone, a Galaxy SII using Vodaphone ( Monthly Bill) will work in the USA ?
I'm not intending to use the phone - unless for emergencys, but I would like to have the confidence that it'll be ok.
I've spoken to Vodaphone Customer Services and they assure me that it will, but that it will of course be on roaming rates. the problem is ... I don't trust Vodafone Customer services - the guy sounded far to flippant lol
