Righting is the opposite of capsize, but my pal thinks there is another technical word for this when you run wires underneath a ship and turn it right way up, any suggestions, gave up googling for it.

There is MoR.

This is the moment of righting where a boat will go over so far and come back up of its own accord. Not sure if there is some kayaking term he is thinking of.

Other than that, I'm stuffed too.

Thats a pretty standard way of righting a Trimaran or big cat, however I'm not aware of it having a particular name.

The cables under the ship sounds a bit like parbuckling, but I've never heard it used in that context.

I have e-mailed a Catamaran designer I know called Brian Eiland. He too cannot think of another term than 'righting' either.

Vipers, I hope your mate comes up with a good term, I went on BoatDesignForums for the first time in 2 years looking for the answer. It seems I have 175,000 new posts to catch-up on. coffee

I am hanging my hat on parbuckling being the "Method" and "Righting" being the correct term.

Good news guys, that was the word right enough, he had heard it on a documentary, seems to me they omitted to mention "Righting" at least he didnt recognise that term.

Just for info, a pal of mine was chasing the elusive word as well and just emailed this

Its from his Royal Navy Seamanship Manual Volume 1, which was issued to him at HMS St.Vincent in 1951, he said he knew it would come in handy some day, but never envisaged it ever being scanned.
