I ask as newcomer to the UK having moved with my family in June from Australia.

Pretty much decided that l will buy a 996TT for second car duties and put the savings from a 997 towards scratching the 993 urge. In Australia l owned a whole string of Aussie muscle cars and always targeted low mileage, unrestored zero accident cars with good provenance. I am developing a strong desire to buy a 993 Turbo S as a weekend fun car and long term investment, to me it looks like it offers the best of both worlds.

So what would be the going rate for a mid miler ~ 30k miles that fits my basic car buying criteria? Is the market stable or falling while the GFC continues to roll on and Europe continues lumbers along with refinancing and putting off of what looks like the inevitable?

Opinions sought please smile

Cheers
Simon

hi - a 993 turbo s would be lots and lots - a 993 turbo is 50-60.
There's one at Paul Stephens with 11k miles in admitedly a marmite colour that has been for sale for a long time but that's £125,000 - Paul Stephens is always too expensive imho but that will give you an idea. Certainly, I doubt you'd get one for less than 6 figures these days. Investmentwise who knows, but a few years ago would have been a better time to buy - they have had a number of price hikes over the last 3 years, but that may well continue.

Malton have a yellow turbo monster with 525 bhp and over 700 nm of torque at £60k that has also been up for a long long time - it's a very particular car but it might float your boat (or part a nearby hedge .... backwards)

Good luck

The 993 turbo S was the beginning of a run out parts bin exercise by Porsche which continued with the 996 and 7 (the 965 S was a completely different animal and was more of a turbo RS).

The yellow car at SCOM had virtually all the turbo S mods from new and listed at over £130K IIRC - it looks a total bargain.

Hey, you are looking at a good 125kEuro for a 993 Turbo S on the continent or solid 100kGBP.

You should get in contact with mr911.com he knows of one LHD on the continent that could be for sale and another one RHD here in the UK (and it's not yellow).

Lovely cars, beautiful indeed...i wish i owned one.

Alternatively you could buy a 993 turbo X50 turbo engine upgrade
(with the K25 turbos, ECU and rads) and X79 air inlets, Y75 aerokit turbo II fitted by the factory at the Exclusive Department...I had one, blue, bought/sold via mr911.

Check it out - unfortunately sold it and big regrets since

Thanks Thrasher, She would need to be a UK delivered RHD model. I value originality above all else.

I found that blue one on the weekend, dont mind the colour. I am glad to hear you say the price is up there as it was what in part prompted me to start this tread. A car with 30k miles is about right for what l want, low enough to be low mileage but high enough that l can put a 1000 miles a year on it. I wouldnt want an 11k mile car and the associated high price premium you pay to get one.

The yellow car has been modded so would pass on it.

There is this one with 60k miles, love the colour but would balk at the mileage

The comment about driving one is very true although l reckon if its raw and rough and noisy l will love it. The pic posted above says it all really.

Cheers

Beware with the "yellow" 993 turbo S: there are 2 regularly floating around and one has a "not so clean" history whereas the other one is perfect.

Also it is a "marmite" color: like it or not...hence not easy to resell. I personnally like it, yet wouldnt consider it.

But yeah a 993turboS is a blast to drive - top it up with 100cell cats and it'll be properly loud: i know, i had them added on and waow!

My-ex wasnt a proper turbo S, it missed the carbon inside, but was built as one from order for a wealthy owner with all the options ticked at the factory's Exclusive dept a couple months before the turboS introduction.

Maybe you can find another one like this and save a couple bucks.

When you check the car, make sure the spec sheet includes:
- X50 turbo engine upgrade (with the K25 turbos, ECU and rads)
- X79 air inlets
- Y75 aerokit turbo II
- Y.. carbon "S" interior

I think you'll be disappointed, sorry.

An RS might be more your bag.

What would you recommend in the same sort of $$ range, from the little l have read on 993's the RS is even more rare than the Turbo S so l guess that means a 996?

That is an option l would consider since its factory and close to Turbo S spec without the interior upgrades which l care less for. I will get in touch with mr911.

Thanks for the advice all.

IIRC there are fewer TTS than RS, although (dependent on miles/condition) they're priced about the same.

Do you need 4 seats or can you get away with just 2?

2 or 4 seats is not so much of a concern as this will mainly be my weekend fun car. Good info on the RS, l am off to do some more reading.

When I was looking to buy I drove both the RS and TTS back to back, the RS won me over!

Good luck in your search

Thanks mate, there are some nice cars on that site but not prices, l have no real idea of the market except for a few cars listed in the UK. Would you say the market for 993's is edging up steadily or is it flat at the moment?

This would have to be worthy of consideration too l think:

Apologies but i have to agree... especially as its the S.

Gorgeous cars but not what i'd call a weekend fun car. If thats what you want then be sure to test drive a 964rs, 993rs and some GT3's for comparison.

If you're more after the investment, then the Turbo S will definitely be a good bet, if you have the budget. If you'd rather not tie up that much cash, then a standard 993 Turbo should be considered, if anything, its more suitable for your needs. Otherwise maybe a 964 Turbo, very much a rising star !.

the turbo S -particularly in black- is one stunning car.

Not £100-125k nice though. I personally think most of the 'upside' potential has already been realised.

For this kind of money I would look at 360cs / 430 scud. But then everyone is entitled to an opinion.

The problem in the porsche world is that the market is so 'efficient' that it is quite difficult to find something such as an investment proposition or a bargain.

My advice is: buy something you fancy, enjoy it to the max and move on when you've had enough..
