I see a lot of posts where we get a bit self congratulatory about our driving skills, I see a lot of posts deriding the rest of the motoring public for being dawdling, clueless, middle lane hogging Picasso driving dimwits.

There is also a sizable thread showing the aftermath of our various crashes, every time I look in the TVR forum (and the ones for sale on Ebay) I am suprised there isnt more fibreglass at the side of our nations roads.

I think on aveage, people interested in cars are more interested in driving well and do get annoyed and dissapointed by those for whom it is just a means to an end, however, do we in our enthusiasm actually go faster, take more risks and eat into, and perhaps beyond the margin afforded by our interest and perhaps actually have more accidetnts ?

Do we buy cars that are perhaps beyond our training, experience and abilities ?

Apart from odd exceptions, everyone thinks they are a great driver, and looks for mistakes in other people.
If someone knew they were doing something wrong, they wouldn't do it.

The same people that merge exactly at the point of turn and complain about others that don't do it might be cutting corners elsewhere, and someone else will be complaining about that.

I dont class myself as a good driver, I enjoy it and make an effort but prefer to aspire to being average and err on the side of caution, it always amazes me the people I know who class themselves as above average or excellent, always a good opportunity to do a Dustin Hoffman impression.

Drove past a chap t'other day who had stopped at the end of a merging in lane ... car behind him didn't expect it (why would you ffs) so almost tanked in to the back of him at c60mph. Fookin dangerous of course & it's this sort of thing that seperates mere mortals from P/Heads drivers.

I think on average PH-er's will be more "progressive" drivers, I imagine the typical plodder will take less risks and hence be safer, and have less points on there licence though.

I'd say I drive faster and more aggressively than average, though despite my best efforts I've not managed to fall off the road or hit anyone yet.

Definitely, but walking up to a car which doesn't command respect and slightly intimidate is just a little bit boring!
