We all know that Modena, in Italy (for those who don’t know where it is) has Lamborghini, Ferrari and Maserati in approximately a 30 mile radius.

Leicester has Ultima, Noble and Caterham (midlands) in the same 30 mile radius!

And I think there’s Jensen and Spyker just down the road near Coventry!

Maybe we should twin Leicester with Modena? smile

It was somewhat depressing visiting the national motorcycle museum to see that something like 95% of the British bike manufacturers were all based in either Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton or at least the West Midlands.

I still think there is somewhat of an engineering area but it's nothing like it used to be.

Dont forget Fenix, lee Noble's new company, as well as Triumph and Norton Motorcycles: The UK centre of motorcycle manufacturing, right there.

Then there's the testing/development centres at MIRA and Bruntingthorpe. The two race tracks. the largest Bentley dearership in europe.

As opposed to now when 100% of British motorcycle manufacturers are based in the East Midlands (Hinckley and Donington)??

Really? I didn’t know Hawk and Gardner Douglas was nearby? Where are they?

Yes MIRA and Triumph is in the Hinckley area, and of course Bruntingthorpe, which is Leicester’s Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah!

I know Lee noble lives in Leicester, is his new company also based there? If so where?

Actually, joking aside, there is quite a lot in Leicester, what else have I missed?

Well yes. But that's two rather than twenty or thirty companies.

You are correct but as OP says Caterham (midlands) is between Leicester and Hinckley.

There aren't thirty volume motorcycle manufacturers in the world now, are there?

No. Might be some more interesting bikes if there were. Not tbh that some of the classic makes could be considered volume, I suspect most were less than 100 bikes in the entire life of the companies.
