Recommend me a 7 seater?
Discussion
My OH and myself have been chewing over a replacement car to suit our future needs and have decided that a 'people carrier' fits the bill nicely.
Up until 4 months ago she had a XC90 which was perfect in some respects, but unreliability issues were beginning to manifest themselves, and as she does a fair bit of mileage, so was the fuel bill (despite being the diesel) She now has a Saab 9-3 estate, also a diesel, and the decision has been made that I'll sell my Integra, and use that as a deposit for something with 7 seats. She has 2 daughters, and I have one, and it would be ideal for this purpose amongst others. I have been looking at nearly new S-max's, but she balks at the idea of spending 15k plus on a Ford for some reason. Other choices include Chrysler Voyagers, R-class Mercedes (though we'd be looking at older ones) or maybe Discoveries. What others might I have missed?

There are quite a few - is having 7 seats your only requirement?! For example, if you want to go off-road, the Disco is an obvious choice. However, if you don't and fancy having a bit of performance instead, then there's the S-Max 2.5ltr turbo or the Zafira VXR. So, like I say, there's a bit of choice out there...

Pleasantly surprised by the other half's C4 grand Picasso.
very nice to drive. obviously not sporty but for just over half your budget you could get a very nice one.
Another +1 from me.very nice to drive. obviously not sporty but for just over half your budget you could get a very nice one.
Had ours over a year now and everyone thinks it's great. No problems so far and hasn't once missed a beat.
There's a thread in the French Bred section with a lot of info on them and a lot of people reccomending them.

I hadn't even considered a lot of these! The general thought is the Saab will be kept as her work car, which she'll use mostly, and whatever we get will be the family car. I'm leaning toward the 2.5t S-max, in Titanium X spec, and I'm trying (and mostly succeeding) to convince her that Ford have come a long way since her D-reg Orion! She has the economy she wants in the Saab, so it won't matter too much when it comes to whatever is chosen. I'm pretty sure anything French will be dismissed out of hand, and I'm not keen myself for no discernable reason I can think of right now. I think the Zafira will be struck off due to its size, though the thought of the VXR does get my juices flowing :-) As for the Landcruiser, whilst she's easily the most confident woman driver I've seen for a long while, I think they are a little too large for her to negotiate the roads round our way (Albeit Sunbury) At the end of the day, we want something with all the toys, and reasonable levels of reliability. And although she'll never admit it, something that will pass muster on the school run, no doubt....:-)
