More reliable......

Looking to change car in a month or so and I'm considering my options. All things being equal, (Same sort of drivers, FSH, 60K-70K on the clock) which does the collective consider more reliable then? Anecdotes most welcome.
I realise it's difficult to define "reliability", but we'll go with "poor reliability = more likely to leave you with hefty repairs and needing consumables replaced quickly" (except tyres). Rate of consumable failure is factor as well I would have thought i.e. A car that eats clutches ] driven normally I would not consider reliable.
I'm aware of the "it's French. Avoid.", bias but at I've been led to believe that the Renaultsport Meganes were screwed together a bit better than their basic counterparts, and after 10 years, even in the most reliable of car cars things start getting tired.
I'm not bad with spanners, but to be honest, I really can't be arsed anymore. That and I will need it for the odd works appointment.

Twice the age though Kambites. Twice the rot and water seeping in.
I should have added that, to be a little contradictory, the reliability needs to offset the additional fuel consumption of the "Z" as well. Unless it leaves me stranded. Which is another factor.
