The plate is currently on my car and the man who purchased it wants me to put it on retention for him and says he will pay me the price of however much that costs.
Is this the normal way to do this?
If not, what is and what should I do?

Perhaps you should have looked into this before selling the plate?

Was planning to directly transfer it to another vehicle via DVLA form V317. Wondering if this is any more complicated.

I'm pretty sure all I need to do for this guy is to fill in the v317 and then put his name in the grantee's details. Then submit it to dvla with my documents and tell him that it is going to cost £105.

Yes thats the process but if the plates going directly onto his car it will be £80 not £105

Not done it, but think you also have to pay £25 to change the nominee of the registration number

I did one couple of months ago direct transfer one car to another for £80. There is an extra £25 charge if you want put it onto a retention certificate.

Get them to pay you a deposit that will cover the transfer costs in case they decide to back out.

I understand there is a £25 charge if you put on retention.

When you paid £80 from one car to the other the reg still was in your name.

As he has sold the plate to someone else I'm sure he'll have to pay £25 to change the nominee name.
