Mk1 Focus Reverse Light Not Working

Knowledgeable folk of PH, I would like some help!
I have a MY2000 Focus and my reverse light does not work. I recently bought the car and since I've owned it I don't think the light has ever worked. I've tried the following:
- Replace reverse light switch at gearbox
- Swapped bulb holder with rear fog light (which I know works)
- Swapped bulb (again with rear fog light)
- Checked fuse
What I've not done yet is check the voltage across the wires.
So, does anyone have any experience of this, anything they can point me towards? Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
