Hi guys, my turbo was telling me it was over 40 degrees celsius outside today! In fact it was no more than 18 in reality. It has been reading high on warm days for some time.

Not worried about this in its own right but does anyone know if this reading is used by the car's engine management? Obviously if the car thinks it is taking in hot air this might change the engine map etc.

Does the car use this information for anything other than the display? Is the air temp for the engine and intercoolers measured separately?

Cheers

It won't use that for IAT.

996 turbo has ambient temp sensor in right hand front grill, 997 could be similar...worth a look to see if it's not been dislodged or damaged.

ETA, as below it should be fairly straightforward to clip back into position

Cheers guys, it does indeed appear to have become dislodged and popped behind the plastic moulding. Presumably a PU off job?

Do no harm to clean the rads though if there is an easy fix I would prefer to leave the clean until early Autumn.

You should be able to do it without removing the bumper. I had to do mine once (996TT, but I assume the 997 is basically the same) after it wasn't installed properly after a bumper off service - and I have mesh over my plastic grills. Took a bit of messing about hooking it with a bit of metal - but I think it only took about 10mins really.
