Mk6 Escort budget uprating

As my little old 'scort (Mk6 R reg) has just got through it's MOT with some very minor stuff (front indicator orange paint flaked off, one suspension arm changed for the bushes) I'm testing the water on some other things.
I know the dampers are getting a bit soft, can't carry the same speed round certain bends that I used to and I'm wondering rather than just replace them, can I get some beefier springs & dampers at a low cost just by fitting say, same-era Mondeo bits? Drums on the rear too.. wouldn't mind great big discs all-round. No upgrade to beasty 1.6 required.

there is a ford parts catalogue downloadable online, you could check the numbers from that. the rear suspension is completely different on escorts and mondeos though. Think fiestas are similar/same as escorts
