2000s Hatchback wars: 1 Series Vs Golf Vs A3

Need to replace the TT with something sensible but still kinda solid and nice to sit in so it's one of these 3 or something i've missed? Would love an Alfa but have only a 4k budget so looking for a 2004 model in the above 3 but can't decide.

Golf is the cheapest, Audi in the middle and BMW most expensive...but what is actually the best own, drive and live with?

Right now I'm equally attracted to all three but if what people say is true then the MK5 Golf is as nice as the other two?

Leon? It's an A3/Golf but with a cheaper badge so = more for your money.

Never been of the looks of 1 series hatch. Do you need hatch? 330 for me for that sort of money?

I agree but don't like that shape Leon and the newer shape looks like fat 147 that's been hit with the ugly stick!

Don't tempt me with the 330 talk! But then...running costs between a 3 and 1 series are more or less the same?
