I've had my 996 C4S Cab for just over a year and whilst I don't do many miles I love the car ... but I also like changing my cars quite often and am getting the 'itch' again.

I also have a potential job change on the cards which would mean leaving it in a station car park quite a few days a week.

It took me ages to find the right spec (manual, PSE, X51, Nav + immaculate!) so do I keep it and just enjoy the weekend blasts when I can and just ensure I park it carefully in the station car park (I know it's only a car but I hate the thought of someone dinging it with their door) or is it time to try something else.

Anyone been in a similar position and if I were to sell what do I replace it with that would offer fun but in a station car park friendly package??

You say that you "love the car", so my vote would be: put the 996 in the garage and keep it for when you're not doing the commute to the station.

Buy a cheap (circa £2k) station car - something reliable but cheap (old VW Polo, etc) - and use that as the daily hack.

Scratching the itch with something new is a totally different issue and has nothing to do with using the 996 to do the station run; you're simply using man-logic to justify changing the car wink

Cheap station car could be an option.

Man maths is just pointing me in directions of even less practical cars to what I've already got!

As a fellow C4S cab owner, let me recommend our choice of second car to you:

Saab 9-5 estate 2001 - cost £2000 three years ago with a full service history. Built like a tank, goes pretty well, lugs huge loads, nice comfy interior...

I used to park my BMW at the station. Now I have a 996 I cycle. First bit of exercise I've had in years.

I park my 106k 6yo run about at the station or on road in what I consider to be a nice area. So far someone's used the bonnet to get over the fence, I have three keyed scratches, numerous dings and my headlight washer cover got nicked. This is over a period of two years. Each key scratch would have cost me around £250-300 (dents away), £45 per ding, £25 for cover and probably lots to straighten or replace bonnet.

Would I park my weekend car in a station. No. Do the man maths get a shed. Audi 8v are good or one of those jags ... mmh maybe I should do the same!

To be fair when I parked my BMW at the station for 2 years I never had a single issue. Maybe I was lucky...

Depends a lot on the station but I do think you were lucky to not even pick up a single door ding!

Small, cheap, reliable car and keep the P&J for the weekend smile

My problem (apart from being grumpy) is probably parking it at the station for a few days at a time - similar to what the OP is suggesting.

Anyway still need to keep that Porsche regardless wink
