Despite promises that tolls would not be placed on EXISTING roads, and also end the war on the motorist the coalition are proposing to put tolls on upgraded section of the A14 in Cambridgeshire

Don't you just hate these gits.

That isn't a u-turn. The new peice of road will be a toll road, but the existing road will stay the same.

And where did you read that? The article linked states exactly the opposite.

article said:
But ministers now plan to charge motorists to use a widened stretch of the A14, the key road linking the East Anglian ports to the Midlands.

[...]

This proposal will see them paying for a road which is already there, even if it is an upgrade.

[...]

Ministers have gone further than before by opening the possibility for tolling existing roads and not just brand new capacity – in this case a widened section of the A14, a critical international trade route.

I more than a bit annoyed about the amount of fuel duty payed on petrol/ diesel, and hope that it will drop as a result of this with VED staying the same. But somehow, I don't think this will happen.

Here we go again. They're going to build a new piece of road alongside the existing A14 for that stretch which will be tolled. Nobody will use it, it's the M6 Toll all over again. People will not use a toll road when a free one runs alongside it, as the M6 Toll has proven. Andrew Lansley (MP for the area) reckons HGV's will use the Toll road, leaving the normal motorists with an emptier road for shorter journies. I'm sorry but HGV's will not spend extra for it, they don't use the M6 Toll unless they're running behind time.

Why do we not learn the lessons from these things? At least this time it'll be private investors who will be kissing goodbye to their money because they'll never make it back.

'New toll plan could see motorists pay for upgraded roads.'

Pardon my French, but if all that fuel duty and RFL doesn't pay for upgraded roads, what the fk does it pay for?

Over the last 10-12 years the motorist has paid a total of around £500billion in direct motoring taxes. I'd like to know why that's not enough for a bit of tarmac too.

Since 1937 there has been no direct relationship between the tax and government expenditure on public roads.

If they're illegal then by definition they're not going to get any money from the Government are they?

My road tax up another tenner to £280, insurance up, fuel will no doubt be going back up, household bills up, and they want to squeeze even more money out of the motorists.

And wages going down or in my case non existent, just a load of no good lying bds who have gone back on all there promises.
It doesn't matter which one of the three major parties you get in power they are all corrupt.

We have had no one in power in the 15 years who has gone into politics for the good of the country, it's all about what they can get out of it, it's a case of I'm all right Jack I'm now on the gravy train.
Rant over I have to go and lay down now and get my blood pressure back down lol.
