Halfords - if i ask for discount will i get it?

So I am thinking about buying matching his/hers boardman hybrids from halfords. They seem a good spec and in my opinion they are better to look at than most hybrids. The total price for 2 bikes is £1100.

So if i go into the store and ask for a discount am i likely to get one? I think staff get 15% so would this be achieveable?

i worked there 3.5 years, and not once did i give discount to anyone on a bike, unless it was ex display and damaged, or the customer was royally fked about

I always get around 10% off at Evans but I suppose the Boardmans are Halfords only.

Look around online, there should be a 10% discount code flying around. Don't forget quidco too!

Buy online and collect in store.

all the time. at least half the customers asked for a deal. the managers never, ever considered it. if they walk off to ask a manager, they wont actually be asking a manager, they will be eating/ having a st/ talking with a co worker etc (not that i ever wasted a customers time like that....)

something was certainly going on that they didnt let on. they were even stricter about boardmans than any other bike. ordering one from head office without a customer lined up for it was a sackable offence!

It's how you ask that counts. If you are going to buy instore then get a rappore going with the salesperson, let them think they are selling you the bikes and you aren't 100% convinced you want them and then drop the "just out of my price range bombshell" and " is there anything you can do on the price for me if I buy today?". Be prepared to walk if you don't get the price you want.

my one big tip, is make sure you get accessories, possibly a bike care plan. their targets are based around the number of care plans sold, and the bikes sold with accessories. might be enough to sway them, you never know

When I worked there (10years ago) I used to give between 10-15% discount or accessories to that value. It was common practice in my store.

If you hurry up and order online and pick up in store, then Halfords have got a promotion at the moment - not much, but 'every little helps'...!!
A quick google of their web page and it comes up with this -

Got them several weeks apart, one instore and the other special order but not online. I think its due to the C2W scheme, but you have to ask.
