Think I know what my excessive current drain is...

Unplugged the stereo and qiescent drain is now down to 0.03A (30mA) compared to 380mA.

Didn't have too much chance to play further as it was pissing it down here this afternoon / evening but I think I may put the old girl onto the Accumate tomorrow night and see if that can get to "green light" charge. (It's always just stayed on amber up to now.)

So - now need to finish doing my ignition switched live feed relay box (so that I can power the stereo off it and also the 12v to 5v DC PSUs for the Road Angel and phone cradle) and find a convenient ignition switched live in that ratsnest of cables!

Its common in cars with later aftermarket stereos fitted. The other alternative is to remove the face of the stereo, this turns them off completely.

Good thinking batman!!!

I think I may even have trimmed off an unused connector from that feed previously when I was tidying up the wiring down there a few weeks ago. biggrin

That's what I thought / assumed too ... but it seems not as I always leave the face off on mine as it's the quickest way of turning the stereo off as otherwise you have to hold down a power button for three seconds to power it down. biggrin

Not so Ant frown they still consume power to retain the settings station presets etc wink Phil there is an ign controlled live (pos II) on the front of the fuse board (male spade) if you have the same type as mine (pre-facelift car) i would only use it to switch the relay though as who knows what circuit is behind rolleyes

I think it's actually the red/white wire that I'd need as that's the one that is for the headlights (routed through the sidelights switch so the headlights can only come on with teh sidelights) and goes off with the ignition switch - the red (I believe) is permanently fed.

Cheers for the pointer though - that looks to be the closest switched feed. biggrin

if you are wanting the stereo disconnected with ignition off can't you just bridge the feeds?
there should be two feeds to stereo, one ignition and one perminant (for presets etc). So just bridge the two power leads from the stereo to the ignition feed in the car. It won't save radio stations etc but will disconnect when ignition is off

That's the problem - there's no switched feed that I can see in the TVR loom to the head unit so I need to make one. biggrin

that makes sense now, a previous owner must have added one in mine

I believe they added a switched live on the later cars that had an ISO connector for the head unit but the early looms seem not to have in the old "Rover" pattern radio harness. (I'll check again though when I get chance.)

Nope - It's a bit too loud for that ...

Would still love to know what it sounds like from outside - I've never heard it from anywhere but the drivers seat. biggrin
