DB7 Vantage gearbox gone south

She used to waft along using an autobox which is the standard ZF 5HP30 as used on various Beemers. But the box stopped providing forwards momentum recently and the local AM specialist has said it is kerplunk.

Options now are

1. Get it repaired - either at the AM specialist for circa £3k (or send it to a specialised ZF repair shop costing approx £2.5k)
2. Get a manual bolted in as it will be more fun to drive.

Has anyone got

1. Great experiences with a garage in the Thames Valley for a full recondition/rebuild of a ZF automatic box?
2. Any idea how much a manual conversion might cost?

I had a Jag XJ40 that used the ZFHP box and when the bands went in that I bought another for £225.

If used in some beemers etc.. then can you not source a replacement? or as you say a manual.

Then it's cost of labour to swap if you can't do it yourself.

Why not just track down a replacement box from a breakers?

A lot more changes than you might think to convert, briefly toyed with it on my old 911.

Would be a great project though! As to costs... Not the foggiest, give Chiltern Aston a call, I bet they have done one before.
