Not sure if this is the right forum to post in or not.

Are there any any sites that would give you typical running costs for owning your home.
Not too interested in Mortgage side of things as can use on-line calculators for that, more council tax, electricty, gas, water, home insurance, etc etc.

Currently lodging in property with inclusive bills so I can try and save much as possible, but looking to buy a small two bed flat/house on my own, so need to know how much on top of a mortgage I would need to find a month.

Thanks

They are all going to be variable Electricity and Gas depending on usage Insurance depends on area.

Rought example I live alone in a 3 bed semi. Insurance £100 a year Elec and Gas £50 a month can't think what water is, not much, council tax £80 a month. Budget £200 a month and you should be ok.

2 Bed Flat, all approximate and pcm:

Electric - £75
Gas - £ Zero (all heating electric)
Council Tax - £100
Water - £25
Insurance (Contents only) - £8
TV Licence - £12

If buying you will need to add maintenance charges, building insurance and life insurance.

To give some comparison I previously lived in a smaller 2 bed with gas heating and the bills were pretty much identical. However when in a 3 bed semi the electric costs were more than double (no GCH).

Add something for maintenance & repairs. You'll need to replace roof, windows, bathroom, kitchen etc at some point. Rule of thumb might be annual 0.5% of value for a new house, 1% pa for modern, 2% pa for older. Listed could be much more.
