Is that because the Associated is a better manufacturer or the components are better?

It is also £87 more expensive which is not inconsiderable ;-)

The Associated is a higher quality product, but as you note it is also nearly 50% more expensive!

It is also not 4wd, nor is it a Monster Truck.

All the models sold by Modelsport are of a higher quality.

Take a browse round their site.

They have plenty of RTR (Ready To Run) cars in your original price bracket which come with everything you need - or will at least tell you what else will be required.

Buy something you like to look of and just have fun.

Modelsport sell replacement parts for the cars they sell for when you get a breakage, which is pretty much inevitable at some point.

Not if you look at the complete package including charger etc. Modelsports RC are not technically RTR (ready to run)

I'd have said it was a better choice than your original.

Don't forget to budget for at least one more battery pack.

Does it have to be brushless?
I got a Kyosho Ultima SC Truck for my birthday and it's great fun.

As mentioned above you will need a charger and batteries so allow for that in your budget.
(See the Sport Combo option from Otley Modelsport).

Why did I start looking around the Modelsport site ....

Think I might be treating myself to one of these in the very near future:
