Now that I've had my chim for a few weeks, I've noticed a couple of things about it that I am not sure are normal! Knowledgable PHers that you are, hopefully you can enlighten me.

When the car is warm enough for the fans to kick in and I've got the windows open and roof on (some times that is necessary, unfortunately), I get a distinct smell of exhaust fumes in the cabin. Doesn't happen if I have the windows closed. Normal or not?

During normal town driving (i.e. my commute), my 4.0 does less that 12 mpg which I can live with if it's normal. but is it?

Cheers,
stuart

Edited to remove my own idiocy.

My Chim had a fumey smell when it got hot. After ivestigation I found a small blow in the exhaust right at the front on the downpipe joint. A quick smear with GunGum and it sorted it. Maybe yours is the same.smile

Ah, could be. It seems to be worse when the fans come on, so I suspect being blown back into the cabin. Cheers.

If its any consolation I was getting similar MPG for first few months, it improved when I'd filled it up a few times and took the piece oflead out of my shoe.
Now getting roughly 19 mpg and still giving it the beans from the lights. biglaugh

rosytvr, thanks, looks useful. After I've checked out seeby's suggestion I'll certainly have a look at that.

Pearly, 19 mpg sounds much better. How did you get there (apart from removing the lead from your sock smile)?

Stuart,

Re: Fuel Consumption. It's not great round town !
Historical Pistonheads evidence is that most people get 200 miles from a tank, mixed use my 400 is around that.

Better on a run, two weeks ago I drove to Manchester and back on a tank, 300 miles which is probably the best I've achieved. However that was no full bore acceleration, hardly ever over 3500 rpm.

Daz - search is down but found this in an earlier thread. Not sure of the cause mate but the scoops certainly worked on my Griff. Easy to make and fit if you follow the instructions

Air passing over the 6 holes create a negative pressure inside the boot drawing in exhaust fumes. Then you come to a stop & atmospheric pressure is resumed- one of the easiest ways for the gas/fumes to escape is via the 2 vents below the rear screen into the cockpit.

With the scoops fitted the boot is permanently pressurised therefore exhaust fumes are not sucked in via the boot seal.
