Brands Hatch Novice evening
Discussion
Hi all
I have been lurking for some time reading posts but only just joined, I plan on attending a track day at brands soon, August September time I hope. As a novice I planned to attend the novice session in the evening however I have an issue with the noise level, I popped down to brands the other week to get by car checked out and it presently is 103db, just within the day limit but out of the 98db evening limit.
I have only found novice days in the evening at brands, having only ever been on circuit once for a Catheram 7 experience I am completely new to this, so the big question is would an open pit lane day be out of by league for a first time driver? I don’t want to be causing a nuisance for other more experienced drivers and also want to be able to drive within my limits and enjoy the track time. Should I just get myself a new exhaust system and stick with what I planned for a novice session or try the open pit lane day?

Having just started doing track days I found it really reassuring to do a novice day first where braking and corner markers were set out. That said, I felt completely at home after the first couple of hours and was certainly not a moving chicane!
Ref noise - you WILL be black flagged for significant breeches of noise regs. In fact, the levels you suggest may well prevent you getting onto track. I would suggest putting baffles on the exhaust which may look poor sticking out the back but it'll ensure you get a full day and it's cheaper than a new exhaust.
Other warning- track days are addictive!

Thanks All, I can’t wait to get on track, I was a little concerned about the noise level hence popping down to Brands to get it checked over, Last thing I want to do is get black flagged and not be able to race. Masher when you say Baffles do you mean something like this Ebay Link or just some of the fiberglass material.Ref noise - you WILL be black flagged for significant breeches of noise regs. whats the car what exhaust is it ?
It’s a rover 100 with 1.8 VVC, larger throttle body and high lift exhaust cam fitted, not a minter by any stretch of the imagination and a mile away from some of the cars on here but it’s fun all the same and gives me something more fun than the daily 5 series diesel to drive at the weekends, it also puts a smile on your face when you surprise people with how fast it is. The exhaust is some sort of 3inch system with no cat. It is a little loud for my taste but was on the car when i brought it and the idea if the car is a cheap weekend toy to I will don’t really want to change it until I have to.Gassing Station | Track Days | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
