We have a stray cross — had him for about 6 years after he decided he wanted to live with us.

He is a Jack Russell / staff cross and of a great temperament.

Within the last few months he has gone from a dog who could eat absolutely anything without problem to a dog who has ferocious wind and liquid poo if he eats anything other than dry dog food. I mean even if he ate one mouthful of anything else he will suffer.

We went to the vets initially after it started and they advised the dry food to let an underlying complaint settle and since then this 'dry food only' situation has been created.

Anyone any suggestions? Is there an off the shelf product that can help?

Many thanks in advance,

Mr. Skill

Well he may be having problems digesting the wheat and grain that they put in commercial foods... As my usual record is playing - switch him to raw food....

Agreed. We had very similar problems with our rescue pup, but she's been fine since she's been switched to a raw food diet.

Thanks for the replies

Its anything other than dry food — i.e. a biscuit that was say dropped on the floor by mistake, a bit of left over lasagne, some left over toast etc etc — the usual stuff that dogs eat every now and then or get given as tit bits. He used to eat lots, and eat anything but now its like he has some sort of super sensitive tummy or similar.

Although I could/will try the raw food, Ideally I'd like to clear any infection or issues he may have.

We had a probiotic from the vet's to help Poppy when she first came to us - might be worth a go? I can't remember what it was called now, but it came in a big syringe and you gave a bit of it every day for a few days. Bex will know what it's called. smile

For a few days try weatabix and plain yoghurt with some boiled rice.

Sounds like the stomach needs settling down.

Have they tested his faeces, this can rule out/ confirm quite a few things.

Also long term diarrhoea = long term probiotics, ask your vet about Fortiflora - try for a month.
