Thinking of having a night out on Saturday and have been looking at Huddersfield or Halifax for a night out.

Can anyone recommend either and if so where are the best areas to go for half decent bars with decent people.

I'm heading over from wrong side of the Pennines to sample what Yorkshire has to offer but dont worry I'll be keeping my thick Lancastrian gob firmly closed lol. wink

Thanks chaps.

Why not go a little further and visit Leeds?

I've only ever been on a night out in Huddersfield so can't compare the two, I can't remember much about that night so I presume it was a good one.

Thought about it but maybe Leeds is a little too big plus from a train pov Halifax or Huddersfield is a straight run.

I am surprised that the train to either of those destinations wont continue to Leeds.

Not sure where you live but Halifax and Huddersfield are both fairly small and not my idea of a great night out......

Personally I'd say continue to Leeds and do Sky Lounge, Mojo, Reform, Call Lane etc. What is it, another 15 mis on the train from Halifax and 10 from 'uddersfield?

Apologies for bluntness but I'd rather have ananaesthatised testicular surgery than go for a night out in Halifax or Huddersfield.

Christ, that bad huh?

Saying that it could be worse I could be having a night out in my home town of Oldham, If you ever went for a drink there you'd know what I was on about. I've not been in 5 years.

Coming from Harrogate I thought the same but having lived in Halifax for the last 8 years I have always been pleasantly surprised how good a night out can be.
There's 3 sorts of nights out, young chavvy as most towns will have, salt of the earth and the more contemporary bistro/bar. You choose where you want to go and won't come into contact with people you don't want to meet.
Lots of very nice restaurants now and even the pubs you once would have avoided are now pretty good. I will be going to the Brasserie at the Bull for dinner tomorrow - one of the best places I've ever eaten.

She was only the Yorkshireman's daughter but she liked her Huddersfield.

So yes, Huddersfield.

Is the Amsterdam bar still going?

Bloody long time since you were in Huddersfield then. There were some real drag queens in that place.

I've had a few nights in Huddersfield and have had reason to visit Halifax during the day.. Out of them I'd choose Huddersfield! It's not a bad night...

Leeds is good if you don't mind the extra distance but stay away from Call Lane, full of 18 year old, up their arse dheads on all sorts of stuff from what I remember.

Sky Lounge is nice but then I'd go up to Greek Street... Expensive but get no hassle.
