hiya chaps, I am planning a trip later this year and wanted to get some feedback on my route. I have tried to incorporate all the best things that I have read about.

Here is part 1 (including a stay on Skye): http://goo.gl/maps/lGYp

and part 2: http://goo.gl/maps/M1u1

A couple of points if I may:

1. up the top ive come south from tongue as the A836 is supposed to be one of the best roads but are we missing lots by not going fully west to Thurso/Wick ?

2. I am uncertain of the best way from E to F on part1, I just took the most scenic looking route

2. on the way up before Glencoe is it worth exploring the western area , looping round Inverrary, A83 + A816 and through Oban ? Or should we skip that and just get to Glencoe from Crianlarich/Glasgow ?

Any help would be most appreciated. The tip will be in Spetember so weather advice would also be welcome.

Loch Fyne/Inverary/Oban is all interesting to visit.
The drive from Connel to Oban is a bit rubbish these days if it ijust the drive you are after.
All routes into Glencoe have good/bad/great.

cant see the first map (may be my works filter screwing it up somehow) but on map 2, its worth a wee detour at the start to head to nairn from inverness, then head down the start of the A939 over the Dava moor, nice well sighted road just watch out for bikers! bit more fun than heading straight down the A9 to Grantown

Why after skye are you driving most of the way across country to see loch ness when you could do that bit of the journey on the 2nd part?

Also I would work the Lochinver Larder into the route for lunch as you are virtually passing or just to stock up on pies

That makes sense it is a bloody good road. Just be careful of your fuel up that way if you are driving about on the sunday as sunday closing is still in operation for a lot of the petrol stations. Infac I would suggest taking a jerry can just to be on the safe side. In my experience of having fun up in the highlands petrol disappears very quickly out of the petrol tank. I have used 50 litres in 120 miles mainly because I didnt get out of 3rd or 4th gear for the 120 miles.

Before you get to glencoe a stop at Tyndrum at the Green Welly stop is always a good idea for general car and bike spotting and stocking up on midge repellant.

Just back from this run today, even on a Saturday it was fine traffic wise, and lot's of fun, even in the old civic that struggles to do 60!

For scenery dont miss east coast of Skye, especially road up the east coast north of Portree. Lots gorgeous scenery everywhere on Skye but this road is my fave, done it many many times.
