Trickle charging an E61 M5?

I am off for nearly 5 weeks crossing the Atlantic and my E61 M5 will be parked up for the duration. I am sure that a few of you would offer their help to make sure that the car is regularly "exercised", but I am actually trying to find out whether I can stick a trickle charger on the battery, while the car is in the garage.
On older cars I would have pulled the negative cable and simply connected the trickle charger. On the E61 M5 it appears to be a bit more complicated than that. Thus any advice is gratefully accepted.

Get the Ctek charger with the cigarette lighter attachment. The car will happily charge via the cigarette lighter and it's completely safe and reliable.

Excellent advice and thanks for the kind offer, but I am flying out tomorrow at 6am and I am in SE London. The charger that I have is nothing but a trickle charger - i.e it is not like my other Ctek beast which regenerates dead batteries, etc... Thus I am thinking it would not damage ECUs or anything as the current it generates is tiny and constant.I've got one that you're welcome to borrow if you're anywhere near Reading

Actually, for the E6x it appears you are right and this is not recommended:BMW said:
