Hercules - Wester Ross
Discussion
I've been up in Plockton, near Kyle of Lochalsh in the North West of scotland this past week, and a Hercules has been passing not infrequently during the day, as well as last night.
Finally got some photos from the boat (hence the poor quality) today.

Do they base themselves up in Lossiemouth for this sort of training, or do they fly up from down south each day?
Would love to see it land at some of the short strips up here such as Plockton - I assume doable at c 600m?

It depends. SCOTTACs are/were historically flown from either Lossie or Leuchars, but a round Scotland sortie at low level is quite achievable out of Would love to see it land at some of the short strips up here such as Plockton - I assume doable at c 600m?
600m is easily land-able for Albert although I doubt Plocton would be used (unless taken over for some sort of TACEX) owing to the fact that it is unlicensed.
Exercises NOTAM'd as Tactical Landings
Not sure if that means wheels actually meet tarmac (or variable quality turf in the case of Glenforsa - always land on the uphill side of the runway) - and God help them if the wheels touch at Oban and the crew aren't wearing full-body hi-viz.
Best fish and chips in the world at Plockton - worth stopping for - but some nasty wind-shear on short final on some days - Yaks and (I assume Albert) not such a problem, but I've scared myself in a 182 and been scared in the back of a Maule trying to get in there....but oh, the Fish and Chips. Stunning.
