Seat mii on personal lease £99

I've never looked at any sort of finance or leasing, but the daily hack has just started to make some interesting noises from the rear. I suspect a set of wheel bearings are required shortly. That plus the fuel it's using and road tax has made me consider one of these for some hassle free commuting on my 16 mile round trip every day. Some fag packet sums seem to work out quite attractively.

Anyone any thoughts? I might spend the extra fiver and get a vw up though

TBF I would never consider that type of car, it just isnt me. But, for £99 a month including Vat for a new car - its a bargain

I have other cars. This is purely for the city commute, nothing else . I'm almost looking at it like buying a tool, which means I don't have to keep wondering what will go wrong with the hack, and I can spend my money on something a bit special . There is PH angle to this thread !

Haha, need to update the garage as the RR has gone to fund a deposit on a new house.

Exactly! The sums just make sense. I have a 9 year old mini which I use to just to commute in. It's costing me nearly as much, even though I have no finance. Mot/tax/fuel/stuff wearing out every other month. It seems madness. I'm quite happy that the other cars are gas guzzlers, because I enjoy them. The mini is just a tool to get me to work and it's starting to look like its days are numbered.

Worth looking into the Skoda Citigo, strongest predicted residuals of the 3 and beats the other two in the group tests. Also Autoexpress car of the year.

Heres another way to look at it. Its £4200 for 3 years with nothing to show at the end.

Its probably smarter to buy it instead, but I guess it will be negligible.

We use a Honda Jazz for that. Kept the last one for 6 years and it lost exactly £1000/yr.

I've seen some of those deals on the Up/Citigo/Mii and am quite tempted as a second car to replace my MX5 (cue horrified response from the PHers).

With two young sons, I really need a second car with rear seats. I don't want to spend much but I just want something reliable and very easy to live with. The MX5 is pretty easy to live with for its type, but (realistically) very little of the driving time is spent having fun on country roads - it's mostly in town driving or the motorway, neither of which are the MX5's natural habitat.

Cars have come on a lot in the last few years - safety, economy, gadgetry (e.g. plugging in an iPod and Bluetooth for the phone) - so getting a five year old car is less appealing. It will only do 3-4k miles pa of mostly short journeys so a small petrol engine should be sufficient. We've got an XC60 for the big trips.

So, back to the point, I'm really tempted with these lease deals. I've seen them for 24 months so you end up paying £2,400 to have a hassle-free new car for 24 months - hard to see that depreciation would be less than that. I've certainly lost much more on my MX5 as second-hand values seem to have plummeted. My only concern is that, even with the 75 bhp engine, it will be very tedious to drive. Anyone driven one?

I'm going down the same road as the OP. Like him I'd never bought a car on finance. However, using my 4200 as a daily driver in London, isn't doing it, or my wallet, any favours. In fact, yesterday I sat down with the Fiat dealership finance chap to work out a deal on a Twin air.

It came to £1200 down and £160pcm for 5,000 miles over three years.

However, now I've seen the figures quoted on this thread, I reckon a visit to some other dealerships is in order.

If one of things you're thinking about the MPG they advertise, bear in mind that many people say the real world MPG is way, way lower. I know it always is, but the Twin Air has attracted particular criticism.

To be fair to the salesman, he did tell me that. MPG and fuel costs are an issue. However, so is pottering around in the 4200, parking it in multi-storeys, just stop-go driving. It's just not suited to that. These cars are. No congestion charge, no road tax and 40mpg is way better than 12. I'll use the Masser for more appropriate journeys.

if you bought that 8k car for cash and drove for 3 years, what would it be worth? 4k max?

so about the same loss either way.

now bang your 8k initial payment into somewhere to make a bit of interest instead (thats if you had 8k cash to start with)

£100pm seems a reasonable deal to me. if that car is something youd buy anyway of course.

my local fiat emporium was doing base spec (but in funky colours) 500's for £99 per month on finance.

sure you'll need a final payment but at least you've got the option of owning the thing at the end if you want to keep it.

can you do that with these lease deals? i've got to admit it's not something i've looked into?
