Official Olympics cars - speed limit exemption?
Discussion
Are the official BMW Olympics cars exempt from standard speed limits? (I'm sure I know the answer to this in reality....)
I joined the M23 at Gatwick end of last week, picking up speed to something resembling the ACPO no-stop guidelines, and a fully-stickered white 5-Series came past me like I was going backwards; hence the question. Who are driving these cars? Perhaps they have special dispensation for when a rank outsider from Turkmenistan is late for practice for the 3-legged egg & spoon race?

No they must stick to the same road rules as the rest of us.......however I'm sure that the drivers of these cars will abuse the privilege of having their own road network to use.........can't wait for the first games lane bump around Blackwall tunnel entrance as who will then get priority on the road ??
If the zil lane is blocked are the public going to have to give way for priority olympic cars ?

Of course they won't be given a speed limit exemption. The press would be frothing at the mouth for a juicy obvious slow-ball like that to wang out of the park.
They are driven by drivers. Drivers are human and each will be different. Some will take the piss, some will drive like nannies, some will be very good (I know some retired IAM peeps are doing it).
Seeing one behave in such a way and applying to all is a bit like seeing a Range Rover tailgaiting because it's raining and assuming they are all driven by arrogant pricks. Of course they aren't each driver is individual.

Was it a white BMW with gold on it? And have did it have a yellow led roof bar? If so they are driven by roads policing plod or some other type of police.
No, it had the silly logo in pink and no obvious additional lights.Edited by SmoothCriminal on Monday 23 July 14:11

I was surprised that someone on such an obvious/visible/attention-seeking vehicle would drive in such a way to attract adverse attention, but if you check again I hope you'd notice that I don't seem to have actually suggested that I'm applying my point/question to all Olympics drivers. And I'm not even sure if the Turkmenistan team are entered in the 3-legged egg & spoon race. If indeed there is such an event. They are driven by drivers. Drivers are human and each will be different. But considering those points doesn't make it quite so easy to try and start an argument, does it?
