car does not show on hpi check

it does have service history, ive seen it.

but the reg was changed on the book, so i was suspicious.

its vw dealer, they wouldnt do anything untoward.... would they?

There is only ONE "HPI" company, don't fall for the cheap ones. The 20 quid stings, but it's money well spent.

The VW checks and assurances might be more helpful than buying one that was from a trader.

Make it their problem to prove it's provenance? No reason why they would be *that* dodgy.

Ask to see the info held on their system for it. Their (vw) computerised system holds records of all services, work etc carried out in any vw dealer. As this is quite new it should have that. I got mine all printed out for my vw golf.

It will have been registered on a private plate and when removed it will have been given an age related plate.

That's exactly what happens when I trade my car in and they change the registration on the service book.

but the put a line through the reg and writing next to it, doesnt look too untoward.

i didnt check the vin on the service book. i didnt really think i'd need to (stupid me)

and there was a vw receipt for the last service with the reg on.
