F10 M5 weight issue

according to stats the F10 M5 is only 70kg lighter than a 7 series.
M5 1945kg
750i 2015kg
poor show for an M car.
Compare original M5 and the 7 series of its time, they're about the same. Then the next generation M5 and 7, and the generation after that. Your post shows 25 years of history. M5 1945kg
750i 2015kg
poor show for an M car.

Poor show for research

Plus if you compare flagship with flagship specs, the F02 760Li has a curb (sic) weight of 2,249kg.
Or in other words, ~300kg more than an F10M.

The E60 was 1855kg. Not exactly a featherweight either.
90kg lighter with a V10 rather than a V8? I'd say that was quite significant. From E28 to F10, weight has increased from 1,550 kg to 1,945kg, around a 25% increase. Power output has near enough doubled. E39 was only 25kg or so lighter than the E60, the biggest jump in weight was from the straight six cars at 1,550-1650kg to the ~10% heavier (and 15% more powerful) E39.

Same platform isn't it?
Saw a vid recently of a Megane RS 250 chasing the ring taxi and you can really see the weight as it tackles the high speed stuff.
Would love to see that vid if you have a link? I would have expected the M5 to leave the Renault for dead in the long straights, losing out on the twisty bits.Saw a vid recently of a Megane RS 250 chasing the ring taxi and you can really see the weight as it tackles the high speed stuff.

Putting things into perspective though (I am a huge M fan) one does really have to question the viability of the current M5.
Its too big, too heavy and too expensive imho. When a 20k Renault can chase one down on a track where the M5 should be at home one really struggles to justify the car costing five times as much.

You're having a laugh right? Have you missed the point of an M5?Putting things into perspective though (I am a huge M fan) one does really have to question the viability of the current M5.

Fast in a line for sure, but no longer the all rounder it once was back in the days of the e39 M5.
That's my opinion and I am sticking with it

Sure the M5 is a good car, but for me it is no longer the shock package that could be afforded by 'Dave' and outgun the car bought by 'Piers'
It's gotten too big, too expensive and far too fat to be playing its previous role - move over the 1M is in town!
