Engine rebuilds to cost full whack?

Looks like Mr Smolenski's first business
descision will not prove to be to popular i.e.

There is no way i would pay 5-10K to have my engine rebuilt. I'd rather spend that on taking TVR to court.
As a grooup of individuals we have no clout, power or say but as a team with combined resources/money and effort we can overcome this issue once and for all.
The Russian guy must no this is only going to push even the loyalist TVR owners off the edge. Give it 6 months and TVR will be in court justifying why there engine is fit for use(haa! that'll be funny!).
They've not a leg to stand on!
It's the same old same old business short termism ideas that land companys in deep shit all the time. You can jsut picture them sitting around the board room table with the top 5 biggest hitters in affecting profitability. Hmm? I know lets scrap the help for engines rebuilds. These customers have already bought one and we've got their money already so
them! We'll save a packet.
Based on his first busineess decision with TVR he is only here for making one thing and thats not sports cars!

This is real bad news. There will be a mass exudus of loyal TVR owners, and the motoring press are going to have a field day, this news is going to hit the residue of any SP6 engined car. I hope sometime in the near future an indi can come up with a replacement engine package because I will be the first customer. I love my Tuscan but I will not sit on a 8 - 12 grand timebomb. Hope this is clarified soon.

This surely has got to be the best option, the current engine obviously has design flaws that are not being rectified & obviously now won't be.
The cost of fitting an LS1 engine will be around that figure, 400bhp of reliable power no more worries.
Well, I hear on the grapevine that there is at least one aftermarket engine transplant being developed - using a rather nice V8, warrantied for 200,000 miles, that will fit - and basic cost circa £3,500.
The other option that may be feasible is just to send the car to TVR Power for an upgrade i.e. taking the 4.0 engine to Red Rose spec. There are some new components that TVR P would fit, so for £3,500 get a rebuild and an extra 40 bhp at the same time? (This is making some assumptions, but if they have the engine in bits anyway...).

The M3 engine would be the first choice...I know of 1 person who binned the AJP in a Cerbera and had the M3 engine installed, but this was a very expensive job and involved a lot of labour, I think the conversion was worth more than the car. Hope someone comes up with a preplacement!

The extended one? That was (don't know if it still is) just a WHA warranty. Which won't cover you for wear and tear... I.e. if anything physically snaps/shatters/whatever you're probably covered, but not if it's just worn away.

Likewise, TVR Power helped me out on my rebuild... paid for & picked up last Friday. Feeling quite relieved following this week's news, but also quite glum for anyone who's driving on borrowed time.
Maybe we need some kind of "war chest" where every S6 owner on PH donates £20 or so, so the next person who has an engine go has some legal support in getting this sorted once and for all.

I agree, if you have a group of owners all with blown engines that TVR won't fix at a reduced rate, you should be able to all contribute to a legal war chest, take a class action, and possibly get some media attention whilst at it to pressure Mr Smolenski, and make him realise that owners have had enough.
I'm not a litigation lawyer, but if the need ever arose I'm sure one of my colleagues could act on this, or other owners on this board may be litigation lawyers themselves.

That's a very good idea (you seem full of them of late!

I would not mind at all in paying £20 for a 'war chest' fund, as far as I am concerned, that is extra insurance, and well spent at that.
